From the HOD's Desk:
Greetings..!!
Engineering Physics department is one of the oldest departments at DSI and the faculties are experts in the fields of physics and nanotechnology and are leaders in a broad range of physics research, utilizing facilities and technologies that are continually being modified and improved.
Our department was established in 1979, and since then, we have grown into a strong and vibrant department with eminent faculty vigorously pursuing world-class research. Our students have access to state-of-the-art teaching laboratories and are involved in innovative research projects in our research labs.
Engineering Physics department with Seven Ph.D's, Three UG Lab and a VTU approved research centre, focus on the advancement of knowledge in both pure and applied physics, providing an exciting intellectual climate for researchers and students. Research Centre is equipped with highly sophisticated thin film deposition equipment having electron beam facility for depositing hard coatings and several electrical and optical characterization equipments.
Engineering Physics department is also sanctioned with two major projects in Nanoscience and thin films for molecular electronics applications. Researchers and students work in the field of studies finding application in the fields of Non Volatile memory applications (NVRAM), Photo detectors and Organic solar cells. Projects worth 50 Lakhs were sanctioned from VTU and Vision Group, Govt. of Karnataka. Physics department is consistently publishing its new results in reputed journals like Dyes and Pigments by Elsevier and IEEE and several international conferences. Researchers also presented papers in IEEE TENCON conference held at Macau, China in 2015.
Students are also supported with a demo, training and internship in thin film projects. They are allowed to deposit and characterize technologically relevant layers for molecular electronics. Quality teaching and technical training to yield better results is the key point. We also support students in their overall development by allowing them to conduct and participate in the sports and cultural activities.
