The department constitutes highly experienced faculty who have been serving for years. It is one of the oldest department which includes a VTU and Mangalore University recognized research centres. The Chemistry division actively focuses its research activities on material science, synthetic organic chemistry, bio-inorganic chemistry, electrochemistry, batteries, catalysis and polymer nanocomposites. Right now we are focused in the area of photocatalysis particularly waste water treatment, luminescent materials for display applications as well as a labeling agent to enhance latent fingerprints.
Highlights of Research Centers
- The Department is equipped with state-of-the-art infrastructure which includes a VTU research centre, affiliated to Visvesvaraya Technological University, Belagavi

- The research group at Department of chemistry is executing a grant of Rs. 60 lakhs under the scheme Centre of Excellence Science, Engineering, Medicine (CESEM) from VGST and Rs.1.5 Lakhs under the Competitive Research Grant scheme from VTU.

- One of the faculties holds the credit for publishing paper in peer reviewed journals Applied Catalysis B: Environmental Q1 (Impact Factor 20.3), ACS Sustainable Chemistry & Engineering Q1 (Impact Factor 7.1) , RSC Advances Q1 (Impact Factor 3.9) for the year 2017. ACS Environmental Au Q1 (Impact Factor 6.7), Scientific Report Q1 (Impact Factor 4.3)
