Library Orientation Programme for newly admitted UG Students

Library orientation for the 2026- 27 UG Batch was held on 25/08/2026. Chief Librarian Dr. J C David delivered the orientation programme. Chief Librarian briefly welcomed the students and explained:

• Purpose of the library
• Role of the library in engineering education
• How the library supports academics, projects and research
• Library's role as a place for both learning and independent study

Chief Librarian mentioned that library is not just a place where you borrow books. It is your gateway to knowledge, information, research and professional learning.

Chief Librarian explained the resources and facilities as below points:

• Membership
• Circulation/issue-return
• Reference section
• Engineering subject collections
• E-resource access
• Journals and magazines
• Newspapers
• Digital library
• Computer/internet facilities
• Reading rooms
• Discussion/study areas
• Previous question papers
• Project/research resources

Told the students exactly whom to approach when they need help.

Librarian’s Day

The Library of DSCE celebrated Librarian’s Day on 12th August 2026 at the library premises with the participation of all library staff members. The day is observed every year to commemorate the birth anniversary of Dr. S R Ranganathan, the father of library science in India, whose contributions have played a significant role in the development of library services in the country.

The celebration provided an opportunity for the library staff to remember and acknowledge the remarkable contributions of Dr. S. R. Ranganathan towards the field of librarianship, particularly his pioneering works and user-oriented library services. His principles continue to guide librarians in making information resources accessible and useful to students, faculty members, researchers and the wider academic community.

On this occasion, Chief Librarian Dr. J C David addressed the gathering and shared valuable thoughts with the library staff. He emphasized the importance of continuously upgrading professional knowledge, developing new skills and improving work performance in order to meet the changing expectations of the academic environment. He encouraged the staff to remain adaptable, technology-oriented and committed to providing efficient and user-friendly library services. Dr. Madegowda K R, Librarian, supported the views expressed by the Chief Librarian and encouraged all staff members to work with dedication, teamwork and a commitment to professional excellence.

The celebration concluded on a positive note, with the library staff reaffirming their commitment to improving the quality of library services and supporting the academic and research needs of the DSCE community. The event served as a meaningful occasion to recognize the profession of librarianship and to inspire the staff towards continuous learning, professional excellence and dedicated service.

E-Resources Awareness Programme for Faculty

Library and Information Centre, successfully organized an Awareness Programme on E-Resources and Library Services for Faculty Members on 30th, 31st July 2026 and 3rd August 2026 in association with IQAC cell. Total 7 sessions were conducted at Library AV Auditorium.

The programme was conducted to familiarize the faculty members with the library's resources and services, enabling them to effectively utilize both print and electronic resources for teaching, learning and research. The sessions were presented by Dr. Madegowda K. R, Librarian, Dayananda Sagar College of Engineering.

The programme covered the following topics:

• Overview of DSCE Library services and facilities.
• Access and effective use of E-Journals, E-Books, and subscribed databases.
• Remote access to electronic resources.
• Search strategies for retrieving quality academic information.
• Best practices for integrating library resources into teaching and research.

The programme concluded with a question-and-answer session, during which faculty members clarified their queries regarding resource access, remote authentication and research assistance. Overall, the programme was well received and achieved its objective of enhancing awareness and promoting effective use of the library's resources.

Librarian’s Day

Librarians’ Day was celebrated in our library on 12th August 2025  to observe the birth anniversary of Dr. S. R. Ranganathan, the Father of Library Science in India. The programme began with a brief introduction of Librarian’s Day.   Chief Librarian highlighted the contributions of Dr. Ranganathan to modern librarianship and the Five Laws of Library Science.

The event concluded with a vote of thanks by Dr. Madegowda, Librarian. The celebration helped to promote reading habits, create awareness about library services and encourage better interaction between users and the library staff.

Library Orientation Programme for newly admitted under Graduate Students.

 The Chief Librarian conducted an Orientation Programme for newly admitted under Graduate students on 8/9/2025. The session aimed to familiarize students with the library’s facilities, resources, services and policies.

During the programme, students were introduced to the layout of the library, membership procedures, book borrowing/return guidelines, e-resources, OPAC search, the digital services available and how to make effective use of reference materials.

Students actively participated and clarified their doubts regarding library usage. The orientation helped them understand the role of the library in supporting their academic work and encouraged them to make full use of the available resources.

Ganesha Festival Celebration

The Ganesha Festival was celebrated in our library on 26th August 2025 with devotion and enthusiasm. A simple and eco-friendly idol of Lord Ganesha was enshrined and Dr. Hemachandra Sagar-  Chairman, DSI  participated in the pooja ceremony along with the Secretary, Joint- Secretary, heads of institutions and the HODs.  Students and Staff also participated and sought the blessings of Lord Ganesha.  The immersion ceremony was conducted on 28th August and the event was marked by various cultural programmes by the staff and students of DSI.

Ayudha Pooja Celebration

Ayudha Pooja was celebrated in the library on 30/09/2025 with devotion and simplicity. As part of the celebration, the library premises, computers, equipment, and work areas were cleaned and decorated. A traditional pooja was performed, seeking blessings for the smooth functioning of library services and the well-being of staff and users.  Library staff and students participated in the ceremony and prasada was distributed after the pooja. The celebration created a positive and harmonious atmosphere, highlighting the cultural importance of respecting tools and workplaces.
