From the HOD's Desk:
Department of Chemical Engineering is one of the old Departments in DSCE, started in year 1982 with 30 intake, increased to 60 in 2007. Also M.Tech was started in the same year.
Department is accredited twice by NBA, once for 5 years. Department is recognized research center under VTU to pursue M.Sc. (Engg by Res) and PhD. It has well established laboratories.
Department has well qualified both, experienced and young faculty who have graduated from reputed institutions like NITK. The faculty as well as students take pride themselves in continually evolving in to well-rounded personalities.
- Department regularly gets ranks at University level. Research works are funded by external funding agencies.
- Student Projects are getting appreciation from external agencies like KSCST, IIChE, AICTE.
- Faculty and students publish their research work in National & International Journals.
- Students are placed in reputed industries and good number of students joining for higher studies both in India and abroad.
Under UKIERI (United Kingdom-India Educational and Research Initiative, sponsored by British Council) a joint collaboration program on “Health and Safety” many faculty from Dundee College, Scotland visited our department and delivered classes. Our faculty with industry experts from Shell, G.E, and government officials from Karnataka State Fire and Safety delivered lectures on the topics Electric Safety, Fire Safety, Behavioral Safety, MSDS, Chemical Safety, Food Safety and Bio Safety. Four of our faculty visited Dundee College, Scotland and also participated in the Global Gathering, attended by faculty from more than 15 countries.
It regularly conducts FDP, workshops, invited lectures, industry visits and other co and extracurricular activities. Under the aegis of ChEA, Chemical Engineering Association department organizes various technical activities like paper presentation, quiz, collage, debate, essay etc. The national level symposium “Chemovation” is celebrated inviting students to present their work. Our annual newsletter “Catalica” features articles on recent technological advances and is also a forum for students to showcase their talents.
The Department awards scholarships on “Merit cum Means” basis to deserving and needy students every year since 2011.
